Starting at the BAT Centre this Saturday - creative writing courses - which will be run as part of The Dancing Pencils Literacy Development Project.
For those not in the know, and if you are a discerning Durbanite you should know by now, the BAT (Bartels Art Trust) Centre, (on the yacht mole), is a picturesque venue for developing arts - music, art, dance, sculpture.
The idea is to run the workshops, with the possibility of publishing in mind.
Lessons for all ages and abilities will be given by author Felicity Keats and her "right brain trained mentors".
There are different classes for varying age groups of children and for adults.
There is no selection process - this is for everyone.
As Keats explains: "Writing is a life skill. Everyone needs to be able to write easily and fluently.
"Even filling in forms or applying for a job requires a skill in coherent writing. Right Brain creative writing lessons expand the imagination."
This literacy project is a non-profit company which also organises an annual book launch and book handover to schools in need.
Although instruction will be given in English, students are welcome to write in whatever language they choose.
Children's classes will be held on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm.
Adult classes will be on Saturday afternoons, 2pm to 4pm.
A full weekend course on novel writing, given by Keats, will take place on February 20 and 21, with the possibility of publication at a later stage.
Also in the pipeline, courses on journalism, script-writing and adults' writing for children.
