This popular M-Net soap with its daily dose of drama, intrigue passion, romance and revenge has become our country's longest running television programme.
Egoli first made its debut on the pay channel on April 6 1992. Franz Marx, who created the series, has a long-running success as producer, creator and writer in the SA film and TV industry.
It's now 11 years later and the show is still going strong. The 3 000th episode will be broadcast on October 3, followed directly by a special broadcast of the Egoli 3 000 bash, which will be held at Gold Reef City. To those millions of fans who were hoping that they might be able to rub shoulders with their favourite stars - sorry, this event is not open to the public.
Still, this episode promises to be a highlight of the soap The popular Juanita du Plessis will be singing at the engagement party of two of the Egoli characters. Unfortunately this is all we can tell you as the channel will not reveal anything more...but do keep a look out for the 3 000th episode.
