The closing date is July 31 and the top five scripts will be selected for a week-long staged reading in October, with the opportunity for discussion and feedback from the public and members of the theatre industry. The winning script will be produced by a professional creative team for a run at a Cape Town theatre next year. A second winner will have the chance to further workshop their play, with a third award of the Scribbler’s Dream, a financial prize to enable a writer to work alongside a mentor to develop the script. The Imbewu Trust, a non-profit organisation, was founded by Same de Romijn and Paul Griffiths to create an accessible community of voices that can flourish through collaboration, resourcefulness and innovation. Imbewu is looking for new works of outstanding quality, original content and which represent the range of the South African theatre landscape. The scripts should be in English, no longer than 40 pages or 80 minutes, with no more than five cast members. For details visit

Call for Proposals:

The DFL artists’ call for the Drama for Life Sex Actually is out. The 2014 festival engages a multi-dimensional approach to the thematic focus: Human Connection. The theme aims to interrogate and explore the questions of: what makes us human? How do we relate to each other? What do we learn about ourselves as individuals as well as through our relationships? What boundaries/ borders are we aware/unaware of? How, and to what extent, do we celebrate and fully engage all facets of our humanness? What levels and modes of connection amount to intimacy and sensuality? What are our understandings of safety and health in the intimate spaces? How have history and space affected our practice of human connection? Apply online for the festival at More info from Zandile Bekwa at [email protected] or 011 717 4731.
