For many, last year’s inaugural DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival was more about the music than the food.

It featured a great line-up of artists including Lira, Khuli Chana, Mi Casa and Jamiroquai. Last year’s event attracted 20 000 people over two days and was held in October.

This year’s event will take place on May 31 and will be held at Emmarentia Dam.

And the organisers have chosen a trip down memory lane. They have invited the Brand New Heavies, Soul II Soul and the acid jazz outfit, Incognito, to perform.

The Brand New Heavies are acid jazz and funk performers and are known are for their big hit Dream on Dreamer, while Soul II Soul are best known for their song Back to Life, Back to Reality.

These bands were at the height of their fame in the early ’90s and were most popular on the Cape Flats and in little farming towns where people enjoyed jazzing to their music.

The idea behind Delicious is to merge family fun with a culinary experience which will consist of international and local chefs offering a wide variety of gourmet morsels.

There will be an artisan food market as well as pop-up restaurants manned by South African and overseas celebrity chefs who will be whipping up their signature dishes on site.

There will also be a kids’ area hosted by DStv which will include Nickelodeon and Boomerang characters.

The VIP bar will play host to a premium bar and a viewing deck over the main stage.

lGeneral admission: R450, but there are a limited number of early bird tickets at R350. R100 for under 12s and free entrance for children under 3. A restricted number of VIP tickets at R850 are available.
