The learners of the legendary Supatsela High have left school. Now the inner-city is their playground! And as South Africa's most outstanding local TV drama, Yizo Yizo, starts its final season on SABC1 in April, many more issues about urban pain and ecstasy will be covered.

Not only is the depth of content more intense - the cast is likely to scoop all the critical honours amid seriously weak local TV drama competition.

Last night, Yizo Yizo 3 - The Final Chapter was launched in the most appropriate place: at the Marung Restaurant on the 50th Floor of the Carlton Centre, right in the soul of the inner-city.

Many of the Yizo Yizo characters are now living - some struggling to survive - in downtown Jozi in an apartment building called San Jose that pounds with a savage life-force of its own.

Javas is at Tech, Nomsa and Thiza are at Wits, finding their new world to be full of distractions. All three are exploring freedoms and loss. Bobo and Sticks are looking for work.

Snowey's battling with single motherhood, but she finds love in an unexpected way.

Yizo Yizo 3 is about confrontation and relationships as it develops the acclaimed take-no-prisoners approach which has been the trademark of the series from the start.

The cast includes Motshabi Tyelele, Makhaola Ndebele and Moagi Modise plus newcomers who have been given the greatest chance in their lives by top directors, the multi-award-winning Teboho Mahlatsi and Angus Gibson, and producer Desiree Markgraaff. As reported earlier, three episodes were guest directed by Nigerian Andrew Dosunmu.

True to its tradition, Yizo Yizo 3 will come with an original soundtrack, including tracks by Brenda Fassie, Kabelo, Brown Dash, Mzekezeke, Mandoza, Skwatta Kamp and H20. Along with these established artists, there's also a crew of fresh talent on the album - Simphiwe Dana, West 2, Ndrebele Civilisation and Slovaz among them.

Tomorrow night, see the behind-the-scenes show, followed next Thursday by episode 1. - Tonight Reporter
