Business is down. There's grumbling within the ranks. His wife is worried about their future. His uncle is headed for trial. What's next for anxiety-ridden mafia boss Tony Soprano?

The Sopranos returns to e.tv at 9pm. Some call it the greatest show of all time, a compelling and complex drama series that tells the story of a modern-day New Jersey Mafia boss, Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) and his two families: his wife and kids, and his loyal gun-toting gang.

The eagerly awaited premier episode of The Sopranos season IV kicks off with Tony investing in a potentially lucrative land deal in an attempt to stave off the slowing economy and his wife's (Edie Falco) constant nagging about the family's long-term financial security.

He calls a meeting of his capos to make his money worries known.

"I want to know why there's zero growth in this family's receipts," he snarls at the guys who are supposed to be his top earners.

"This thing of ours is supposed to be recession-proof," he reminds them, and threatens that things had better improve. Or else.

Problems abound among Tony's crime family as well: Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) worries about his pending Rico (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act) trial; Adriana (Drea de Matteo) confides in her new friend Danielle, who may be an undercover FBI agent; and Christopher (Michael Imperioli) sets his sights on avenging an old murder.

When it gets too much Tony seeks the professional services of his therapist Dr Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco).

He confides he doesn't want to end up like Junior, 72 years old and with legal bills "that would make you gargle Draino!"

- Jeremiah and Kurdy attempt to save a community when its children begin disappearing amid a rumour that the blood of children can be used to prevent the return of The Big Death, in Jeremiah (SABC3, 9pm).
