Before the event, South Africa's beautiful contender, Thuli Sithole, spoke of her ambitions, her childhood and what she believes makes her unique.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I love art (drawing, painting and sculpting). I also enjoy reading. I enjoy spending my time with those I love most, my family and friends. I love doing things that help me develop and grow spiritually.

Name one person other than your parents who has had the most influence on your life, and why.

I have grown up in many cultures and have had many people who have influenced my life. I love them all. Currently, I would choose the South African deputy president because she's the first woman to take the position and has set a platform for many other women. I also love Oprah because I believe she's an angel on earth.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

My career ambition is to complete my studies and create awareness of women in the construction industry. I aim to be a businesswoman who will use her skills in construction to better my country and empower youth and women in various sectors, such as social and economic development.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

In my first years as a young child, I was raised in the township and I was exposed to many cultural differences. I have a younger sister who was and still is my best friend, and together we had a great childhood.

I enjoyed the freedom I had in my home environment and I have my mother who has dedicated herself to us. I also had my father, who has since passed away, who instilled in us good values and principles and believed strongly in the power of education.

What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?

I believe I have substance. I am very humble and passionate and love what I do. I am a proud African woman and proud to be South African.
