Pietermaritzburg - Two men were injured this morning when several carriages of a goods train derailed in the Boughton area near Pietermaritzburg on Friday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics responded at 6am and found that several carriages had derailed and were lying next to the tracks.  

He said paramedics found two men had sustained moderate injuries. They were treated and transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities are investigating.

In Durban on Friday morning a man in his thirties was electrocuted by a live electricity wire on Quarry Road, Clare Estate.

Garrith Jamieson, Operations Director for Rescue Care, said at 9:20am paramedics were called to the scene to find community members performing CPR on the man. Paramedics took over but their efforts were unsuccessful. He was declared dead on the scene.

Sydenham SAPS was on scene and will be investigating further.
