Woman attacked by five dogs while on early morning walk

Pietermaritzburg - A 56-year-old woman was left seriously injured on Thursday morning after she was attacked by five dogs while walking along Berea Road in Howick in KwaZulu-Natal.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived at 5.36am to find the woman seated on the side of the road. Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained numerous bite wounds which left her in a serious condition. The woman was treated for her injuries, and provided with pain-relief medication, before she was transported to Mediclinic Howick for urgent treatment.

Meiring said the incident was reported to the local authorities.

In a separate incident, the body of a man was found on Thursday in some bushes off Manning Avenue in Pietermaritzburg.

Meiring said paramedics were called to the scene by the local authorities who requested further medical assistance. Upon arrival, paramedics were lead down an embankment to where they found the body of a man lying among some bushes.

Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained a serious head injury and showed no signs of life. The man had been dead for some time.

Meiring said paramedics assisted the local authorities in retrieving the body.

Police were not available for comment.
