Making bold statements with bold accessories works for all seasons, and Samkelo Nyakambi of Langa label Unyazi Lwezulu produces handmade beaded watch straps that turn heads.

Launched two months ago with the aim of creating a positive feeling by combining colourful beads to form art, the straps are inspired by African pattern designs.

“We love exploring new designs which will create fun, elegant and stylish bead straps,” said Nyakambi

“We have been operational for a couple of month now and the warm welcome we received from the industry has been amazing.

“We ensure that our designs result in fashionable watches for everyday use.

“Our bead straps are handmade, detailed to the end and we make sure each colour blends in with the others.

“We also offer customised designs.”

Customized handmade watches.

The idea of making watch straps started after Nyakambi completed his studies in computer programming at the College of Cape Town.

With aspirations of sharing skills with the youth in his community, he partnered with Asanda Mini, an aspiring chartered accountant who has similar entrepreneurial skills and, with that, the brand was born.

Unyazi Lwezulu continues to grow rapidly and the partners are aiming to take their products to the world.

“With our designs being unique and catering for those who are still young at heart regardless of true age, we are planning to export our beaded watches internationally,” Nyakambi said.

The Unyazi Lwezulu watches are available nationwide. See
