Hidden in Long Street in the Cape Town CBD is a Korean barbecue restaurant called Galbi.
Galbi’s menu is inspired by both Korean and South African cuisine, so if you’re in the mood for game, other meat, chicken or a veggie dish, you’ll find something to satisfy your taste buds.
Meat with South African marinades is served from table-side barbecues - and meals are prepared for two.
There is also a variety of enticing side dishes, from sweet potato fries to pear wedges served with prosciutto and mint. One or two ready-made meals are on the menu, but their galbi (Korean word for “rib”) meals are the main draw card.
FRESH TAKE: A Korean restaurant serving barbecued meat is a hot spot in the city centre.
A galbi dish includes 400g of spicy marinated pork, beef or tofu (or a combination) marinated to mouth-watering perfection.
It’s served with kimchi (spicy fermented cabbage), a sesame seed spinach salad, green onion salad, cos lettuce, sweet potatoes in a honey glaze, and a Korean mash potato salad.
It is exciting to have your meat cooked in front of you. The best option is a half-pork, half-beef meal.
If you are looking for a new dining experience, then visiting Galbi is a must. I can’t wait to go back.
