This culinary business was founded in 2014 by Lebogang Mpuang, a creative chef who understands that the nuances which titillate the tastebuds and persuade the palate are an art form.

Mpuang attended Capsicum Culinary Studio, where she completed a professional cookery degree in 2013. Having kick-started her career with an internationally recognised qualification, she pursued private and celebrity cheffing and the curating events, and was later sought after by the producers of SABC 3’s Top Chef SA, where she made the Top 10.

In 2017, Mpuang became one of the four faces of Whirlpool, resulting in Blackcurrant Kitchen Studio being fully fitted with the brand’s cooking equipment as well as mod cons to make their clients’ cooking experience as convenient as possible.

Since its inception, Blackcurrant has been committed to inspiring innovation through the conceptualisation of food-related digital content, including virtual recipes, food styling and creative food marketing – all with the sole intention of connecting people through taste sensation.

“We have ambitions of being one of the leading food agencies in South Africa, with the primary focus of creating bespoke activations to promote brands through food itself,” says Mpuang, as the aroma of freshly baked focaccia leads me inside.

Mpuang says it is her deepest passion to provide wholesome, delicious meals, and Blackcurrant’s mission and vision centres on helpful yet entertaining services to dietary specific and palate-driven clients.

Blackcurrant hosts cooking classes and workshops for those looking to elevate their culinary repertoire, as well as a Chef’s Table event once a month, The space is also available six days a week for functions.
