5 things to check out at the Slow Food & Wine Festival this weekend

The annual Slow Fodd & Wine Festival is in the heart of winter and comes hot on the heels of the Wacky Wine Festival which took place in June in Robertson and surrounding towns.

Each estate has their own programme for the weekend’s events which kick off on Friday 4 August and each event, tasting or meal is priced separately.

Kloon Wines in Wakkerstroom Oos 

You can book a seat for a very special 6 course meal of “slowly prepared, locally sourced foods matched with selected vintages from Klue Wines” for only R600 per guest.

To tantalise your taste buds there is fresh Namibian Rock Oysters topped with decadent hollandaise sauce and persillade, then grilled until golden and bubbly on the menu; as well as pan fried springbok rolled biltong spices, Ostrich marinated in shiraz all served with fried potato cakes, ratatouille of winter vegetables, and a cranberry sauce.

Lords Wines

They are offering a Creative Food & Wine Experience on offer for people who something a bit different and not just a sit down meal and wine tasting.

Along with the Oosthuizen family who create the wine, you will be able to get sample tastings from the barrel and get an exclusive preview on vintages that will be released.

And then they promise “a dining experience you’ll never forget.”

Food presented in a different & creative manner. A Pipette is a handy little tool that draws samples of wine out of a barrel in a laboratory setting.”

Then join their skilled chef who came up with the tongue tingling sensations for PIPETTE.

Instructions are that: “sauce pipettes will be used to sample from the chef’s saucepan and for you to infuse into the dish that he created. Science food is the new trend and Lord’s want.”

Rosendal Winery & Wellness Retreat

If you want some sweetness on the weekend then you should check out the Wine & Chocolate Pairing at Rosendal Winery.

Here you can taste which wines go best with variants of Lindt chocolate. It only costs R45 per person and you might want to stop over at the spa while you’re there.

Weltevrede Wine Estate

If you do want to make your Slow Food & Wine trip a bit more romantic then buy a ticket for the candlelight 5 course dinner in the underground cellar at Weltevrede

For R350, thirty people will be able to enjoy a main meal of pan-seared fillet mignon, shallot, red wine and balsamic reduction with creamy spinach and a medley of vegetables.

For dessert you’ll be served Chocolate Oblivion with a raspberry puree and passion fruit and of course all meals are served with premium wines of Weltevrede Wine Estate.

A great market 

There is a Slow Food & Wine Market which is set up at on Sunday, 6 August 2017 at the Klipdrift Farm(next to the Robertson Riding School) from 10:00 – 14:00, the perfect place to end off your weekend and get a glimpse and taste of some of the food and wine you might have missed.

Entrance to the market is free and they handpick the freshest foods and rarest finds to share with visitors.

There is a country charm that you won’t find anywhere else and if you really want to make the most of the weekend then book accommodation in one of the neighbouring towns, Montague, Bonnieval, Ashton or McGregor and then you will be able to see different sites in different towns.
