It's the season to travel and while many jet off into the sunset, we shouldn't forget that there are thousands of people who fly into SA this December.

Return travellers and regular visitors will know that half of the authentic South African experience is our great food and award-winning wines.

And it's a no-brainer that people coming here should get a taste and a sip of what we have to offer before they even set foot on our shores.

Emirates — the world's largest international airline, is growing its relationship and investment with South Africa's top local food and wine producers.

Emirates airlines serve a range of locally produced meals.

The next time you're on an Emirates flight in Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg, whether you're coming into the country or going on your next travel adventure, you can expect to find a few local favourites on your plate and in your glass.

The airline sources its food and wine from local producers, especially those who produce high-quality products in small batches.

Rooibos is a South African favourite whether it's enjoyed as a cup of tea or in our food.

First and business class travellers can enjoy newly introduced rooibos infused dishes such as rooibos curred salmon and cajun chicken breasts with rooibos jus.

On the first and business class tapas menu, the meat lovers can enjoy generous portions ostrich meat dishes from local producer, Ostriland.

If you have been to Spice Route in Paarl chances are you stopped at Fairview Cheese for a cheese and wine pairing or fill your basket with some of their mouthwatering artisanal cheese.

Emirates has been serving Fairview cheeses for over five years and offers a range of traditional cream cheese and artisanal cheeses.

Since 2005, the airline has partnered with 25 South African wineries, from which 50 different South African wines have been enjoyed by global travellers onboard Emirates flights.

The airline has six different wine lists from regions around the world including Europe, Africa, Far East, Australasia and America.

Some of the locally produced wines served on the airline include Ken Forrester Wines, Boekenhoutskloof, Waterkloof, De Wetshof Estate and Klein Constantia.

Stephen Towler, Senior Beverage Advisor Emirates Airline, says: "We offer a wide selection of drinks to enhance the dining experience of our customers. The addition of Amarula liqueur, which we serve exclusively as an airline, is a great example of the commitment Emirates has to the region."

And with the great showcase of what we have to offer comes a substantial investment, beyond the drinks menu.

Since 2005, Emirates' investment in South African wines equates to roughly US$7 million.
