Gugulethu’s first wine festival has been scheduled to take place on May 27 and 28 on the rooftop of the Gugulethu Square Mall.

The brainchild of Mzoli Ngcawuzele and Lungile Mbalo, both of Mzoli’s Place, the organisers hope this inaugural event will grow as the Soweto wine festival has done.

They have brought in Marilyn Cooper, MD of the Cape Wine Academy and co-founder of the Soweto festival, to manage the exhibitors, and she says she has had a good response from the wine farms. The opening hours will be 3pm to 9pm on the Friday and 2pm to 10pm on Saturday. The entry fee is R70.

For more information, e-mail Lungile Mbalo at lungile@mzolis. co.za or Hot Salsa Media at [email protected].

* May 7 and 8 are the dates to diarise for the annual Riebeek Valley Olive Festival which showcases not only the diverse joys of this ancient fruit, but the enjoyable wines of the region, while the valley towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West also exhibit exciting art and host live performances of music, dance and theatre. The country cuisine takes in a range from haute cuisine to rustic fare, from Mediterranean dishes to food-on-the-move.
