Beer could easily be the national drink of South Africa. We have been guzzling the commercial beer for years and craft beer continues to evolve in our breweries across the country.

AB Inbev now owns SAB Miller so there is a steady movement to support local brewers still plying their on home soil.

The SA National Beer day is the brainchild of beer enthusiast and writer Lucy Corne who is passionate about the industry and quality brews.

National Beer Day is the brainchild of The Brewmistress, Lucy Corne.

#Beerday is being celebrated tomorrow - pic supplied

On her website brewmistress.co.za she shares fascinating statistics about the South African Craft Beer industry:

- There are approximately 180 South African boutique breweries - from the nano, garage-style setups to the larger outfits.

- There are breweries in every province, with the bulk of them in the Western Cape.

- The average monthly output for a South African microbrewery is 10,250 litres.

- The total annual production of micro-brewed beer in South Africa is around 20 million litres, which means it still accounts for less than 1% of the beer market in South Africa.

There are several pubs and festivals celebrating #BeerDay tomorrow, so get in on the action and enjoy an ice cold beer.

Cheers!
