Sugarbird Fynbos Gin is new to the liquor shelf and already made an impact.

Not only has their crowdfunding campaign gained traction with SA media and on social media, they've just broken a rewards-based crowdfunding record in South Africa, previously held by Afrikaans rock band Fokofpolisiekar.

Rob Heyns, Co-founder of Sugarbird Gin: "I am overwhelmed and amazed at the support from backers and fans and impressed by the results of the efforts of the extended team. People from all over added to our momentum, it truly was a crowd effort."

Sugarbird Fynbos Gin raised R1 086 703.00 and raising this amount means they'll be able to achieve everything they set out to do and more.

The gin has officially been launched across SA and is now set to be distributed in the United Kingdom and China.

As stated in the campaign, proceeds from every 1000 bottles will be used to grant bursaries to  further aspiring entrepreneurs.

The selected group of entrepreneurs will be made up of at least 50% female entrepreneurs and at least 50% previously disadvantaged.

In collaboration with KOI Group, the aspiring entrepreneurs will be sent to a two-part boot camp, each a full weekend long to develop entrepreneurial skills as well as launch an actual idea into a business and the refine this working business at the second bootcamp.

Thanks to the overwhelming success of the campaign Sugarbird are able to send at least 20 entrepreneurs on the KOI Bootcamp, which will empower them to make their dreams of success a reality.

Nzeka Biyela is a co- founder or Sugarbird Gin and says: “I am beyond thrilled that we have gone over & above our dream goal.
