CAPE TOWN -
The Comrades Marathon Association has launched a virtual race to be run on June 14 called Race the Comrades Legends.
All South African runners who entered the 2020 Comrades Marathon are allowed to join in on the virtual run and the cost for new entries is R150 or $25 for foreign athletes.
Every entrant will receive a digital race number, a virtual medal and certificate after the race and you’ll have the option of purchasing a commemorative T-shirt.
“The race will provide a platform to engage with other runners, as well as an opportunity for family members to participate, all with the reassurance of safety and convenience, doing so within the constraints of the lockdown regulations,” said Comrades chairperson Cheryl Winn.
“Runners must register on the Comrades website and select their distance. They will also have the option of donating to an official Comrades charity,” she said.
HOW IT WORKS
Runners can choose between 5km, 10km, 21km, 45km to 90km distances
Run at your own pace at any location, your garden, a treadmill or your neighbourhood
Upload your results using fitness apps
Results will be compared to that of Comrades Legends like Wally Hayward or Zola Budd
