Half of the parents have given up trying to get their children to eat their ‘five-a-day’.

While 29 % have simply lost patience with youngsters reluctant to eat fruit and veg, another 20 % said they were too tired or busy to force the issue. One in 20 admitted they don’t think eating ‘five-a-day’ is even important, according to the poll of 2,000 parents with children aged up to ten.

The survey revealed problems with adults too, with the average parent eating just three portions of fruit and veg a day. Home appliance maker Beko, which commissioned the poll, said families needed to try more exciting recipes.
