Published May 22, 2020

Lava Lamp

Lava lamps are great ways to teach your children about density and polarity. It teaches your child that not all substances mix and everything in nature has a positive and negative pole. The poles could be explained further using protons, neutrons and electrons. The experiment is a fun way to introduce science to your child.

• 1 Flask or jar

• Oil

• Water

• Food colouring

• Fizzy tablet / Sodium Bicarbonate

Fill the flask most of the way with vegetable oil and fill the rest of the flask with water. Add a few drops of any food colouring and add the white fizzy tablet or add a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate into the flask. Watch your lava lamp erupt into activity! As the reaction slows down, simply add more.
