DURBAN – Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, many essential workers have recently tested positive for the disease.
Two Pick n Pay branches in Durban are no exception. Staff from the Musgrave and Pavilion Pick n Pay branches have recently tested positive for Coivd-19 which resulted in the stores' temporary closure.
The Musgrave store has been temporarily closed since Thursday, May 28. This is the second time the store has been temporarily closed.
Previously, a staff member had died and as a precautionary measure, Pick n Pay closed its Musgrave store for deep cleaning. Pick n Pay has made it clear that this staff member did not die of Covid-19.
In a statement Pick n Pay Musgrave released on Saturday, May 30, Pick n Pay said: “As a precaution, the remainder of the store staff who were not in close contact with the staff member have been screened by health practitioners. A specialist cleaning team has deep cleaned and sanitised the entire store.”
On Thursday, June 4, the Pavilion Pick n Pay branch confirmed that its store would be temporarily closed, as a staff member had tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, June 3. A spokesperson for Pick n Pay stated that the infected staff member was sent home to self-quarantine.
The Pick n Pay spokesperson said: "As a precaution, the remainder of the store staff who were not in close contact with the staff member have been screened by health practitioners. A specialist cleaning team has deep-cleaned and sanitised the store. We liaised closely with the health authorities and will reopen the store on Friday.”
