DURBAN - The Durban University of Technology (DUT) will host a virtual graduation ceremony on June 10, for over 7000 students who were meant to graduate in April and May.
According to the university, the decision is in line with the National Coronavirus Command Council Regulations to stay safe and to observe physical distancing. The virtual graduation ceremony to be held at 12 p.m midday and will be taking place online via the DUT website.
“The virtual graduation ceremony will take place in order to honour all of the graduates who were meant to graduate in April and May 2020.
The Faculty of Management Sciences has the highest number of graduates, with a total number of 1902. Followed by the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics with a total number of 1670 graduates. The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment has a total number of 1040 graduates, followed by the Faculty of Applied Sciences with a total number of 718, the Faculty of Health Sciences 693 graduates and the Faculty of Arts and Design with 476 graduates,” said the University.
Among those who will be graduating is Ukhozi FM’s current affairs presenter and producer, Cassandra Zungu, who obtained her BTech in Journalism.
“I completed my BTech four years after I received my Diploma in Journalism. I had to put it on hold due to finances and it was a good feeling to finally complete it. I’m considering studying further next year,” said Zungu.
Musician Thandeka Mkhwanazi also known as TDK MaCassette, will also be graduating. Mkhwanazi obtained her BTech in Communications Management
“I needed something to fall back on, especially knowing that I come from a well-educated family background. I want to be an inspiration to the youth, to show them that it’s very important to have some type of qualification in the entertainment industry. You meet different people with different aspects of business, that you as an artist should understand or have some type of understanding,” she said.
