How bad teeth can stop the smiles

London - A quarter of us won’t smile for the camera because we are worried how our teeth look in pictures, a survey has revealed.

The research found 42 percent of people say their teeth are the number-one thing they would change about their appearance.

And there could be good cause for the concern, with the survey of 2 000 people also finding that 29 percent do not use toothpaste while 47 percent said that they do not know how to brush their teeth properly.

More than half of people in the Bupa research said that they felt celebrities and public figures with perfect teeth made them feel inadequate and under pressure. And four in five worry about how they look in photographs.

Dr Steve Preddy, of Bupa Dental Services, said: “Worryingly, our research highlights how many people are ignoring the art of brushing their teeth properly.”
