Parents with toddlers will have to continue to juggle work and their little ones as Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres remain closed with no opening date in sight.

While nursery schools and ECD’s which are linked to schools can reopen on July 6, private centres, daycares and other early school groups that fall under the ambit of the Department of Social Development await the go-ahead from the minister.

“An early childhood development programme and/or partial care facility that intends to re-open under the duration of the state of disaster subject to the pronouncement of a date and the conditions of such re-opening by the Minister of Social Development

"Staff, including managers, early childhood development educators, early childhood development practitioners, administrative and other support staff, either full time or part-time involvement in the operations of the early childhood development programme and/or partial care facility, may return to their workplace, subject to measures and conditions as set out in the (health and safety guidelines),” read the statement by the department.

Meanwhile, centres that would like to open for staff to return will need to complete a pre-opening assessment form which follows an onsite inspection.
