NPO launches virtual food incubation programme

CAPE TOWN - Oribi Village is calling all entrepreneurs to apply for its brand new virtual food incubation programme.

In response to the Covid-19 crisis, Oribi Village, the Southern Africa Food Lab, and Wakanda Food Accelerator joined forces in the #BridgingTheGaps 21-day challenge, to proactively address and reshape how food is produced, processed and consumed with all South Africa’s food system actors.

“In the 21-day challenge we called all innovators and food sector actors to work together, in light of the impact of Covid-19,” managing director of Oribi Village, Ellen Fischat, says.

By means of this partnership, Oribi Village says it is extending the objectives of #BridgingTheGaps challenges and seeks innovative food solutions to develop and sustain, that address system changes in the current industry.

This is the first virtual incubation programme and it will be hosted by partners and industry experts such as the French Embassy Abalobi and Sapientt.

They will host masterclasses, international market access and learning journeys for the participants.

The fourth cohort will consist of ten selected participants, among the ten participants, two are the winners of the #BridgingTheGapschallenge - FoodFlow and Orderkasi.

The call for applications commenced on 11 June and will close on 20 July.

The incubation programme will be in duration for nine months, starting from 5 August 2020.

Based in Cape Town’s District Six in South Africa, Oribi Village is a non-profit organisation, established in 2018, to promote and support local social entrepreneurs based in Cape Town and its surrounding townships.

Oribi is part of GROUPE SOS Pulse, a global network of social incubators and accelerators powered by GROUPE SOS, one of Europe’s biggest actors of social change with more than 18,000 employees and an average of 1.7 million beneficiaries.
