Why jogging is good for your body and brain!

The real health benefit of running can be seen in the brain, say researchers at the University of Ottawa in Canada.

They found that mice which ran on toy wheels in their cages had boosted brain function. It seems the exercise triggered the production of a molecule that repaired tissue.

It’s thought the molecule insulated brain cells, which strengthened connections between different parts of the brain. The mice also lived beyond their life expectancy of 12 months.

Researchers found running increased the amount of myelin — a white substance that coats the nerve fibre. Without it, nerves cannot carry messages as quickly or efficiently to the brain.
