CAPE TOWN- South African tourism has suffered great losses since the beginning of the national lockdown, however as

South Africa enters into alert level 3 on Monday many tourism services will be reopening for business.

Minister of Tourism Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane announced on Sunday that with the easing of restrictions and the reopening of the economy, activities such as hiking, game drives and hunting will be permitted.

Tour guides and operators, travel agents and tourism information officers are set to get back to work today, and some public and private game farms will be open for self-drive excursions.

In a statement SANParks said that national parks namely Golden Gate Highlands-, parts of Garden Route- and Table Mountain National Park with the exception of Boulders Beach and Cape Point will allow access to day visitors from Monday.

Kubayi-Ngubane said that the department has come up with an additional financial relief mechanism for tour guides. R30 million will provide financial relief over a period of two to three months.

The beneficiaries of this scheme will include registered tour guides who are not employed by any company, and those that have not formed their own companies which means that they are freelancers or independent contractors without job security.

Here are the tourism services open from today:

- Restaurants for delivery or collection of food. Restaurants with liquor licences are allowed to sell alcohol only for takeout and delivery.

- Professional services including tourist guides, tour operators, travel agents and tourism information officers are allowed to operate.

- Other professional services including the training of nature guides and other related services that are able to ensure safe distance.

- Public and private game farms have been opened for self-drive excursions.

- Hiking to be done in compliance with excising guidelines and not in groups.

- Accommodation activities are allowed except for leisure and establishments will no longer require a letter from Minister of Tourism to operate. They are required to ensure that they accommodate those in the permitted services and keep records for inspections by the department.
