London - A chocoholic dropped six-and-a-half stone (about 41kg) in just a year – by giving up Nutella.

Charlotte Bourton, 23, used to begin each day with a chocolate spread sandwich, and even spooned her favourite treat straight from the jar.

But by swapping the sugary Nutella for a healthy breakfast and avoiding chocolate bars, she managed to cut out 800 calories a day.

The 5ft 4in Bournemouth ambulance worker, who once weighed 16½stone, said: “I’ve had a sweet tooth for as long as I can remember, and my favourites were always Galaxy bars and chocolate spread. I’d even sneak the odd spoonful of chocolate spread by itself.”

Miss Bourton’s sugar cravings meant she got through seven Nutella sandwiches and 20 chocolate bars a week.

By December 2013 she hit a dress size 18, and was inspired to change her diet after being “horrified” by a picture of herself on Facebook.

Instead of Nutella for breakfast she ate porridge, and she replaced her chocolate bar snacks with fruit and yoghurt.

Miss Bourton, who is now 10st and a size 8, added: “It makes me feel queasy when I think of how much chocolate I used to get through. I never even crave it now.”
