WHO Chief wishes Minister Mkhize speedy recovery

CAPE TOWN - Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), on Monday wished Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize a speedy recovery after Mkhize and his wife, Dr May Mkhize after they tested positive for Covid-19.

In a tweet, Ghebreyesus said: “Wishing you my brother,

, and your wife Dr May Mkhize swift and easy recoveries. I wholeheartedly agree on the need for everyone to play their part and keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Together!”

Mkhize who announced the news yesterday on twitter, urged all South Africans to continue adhering to health protocols.

"I want to beg that we do not neglect wearing our masks, social distancing and washing / sanitizing our hands. Let us not dare regress. Whatever we do and wherever we go, we have to keep in mind that there remains a risk of a second wave.

This virus only spreads through movement and contact of people. Therefore we must all play our part. We must protect ourselves and those we love," he said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa also conveyed a message of support to the couple.

“Khabazela, I wish you and your wife, Dr May Mkhize, a safe, restful and speedy recovery from #Covid-19. I also join the Minister in calling on all South Africans to remain careful and do all that we need to do to #StaySafe and help the country avoid a second wave of the pandemic,” said President Ramaphosa.
