DURBAN - The debate on the use of hydroxychloroquine to ward off (to treat) coronavirus has once again come into the spotlight. This comes after Dr Stella Immanuel, a doctor from Houston USA, said in a video which garnered millions of views online, that she has successfully treated 350 coronavirus patients "and counting" with hydroxychloroquine.

In the viral video, which has since been taken down by tech giants including Facebook, Twitter and Google, Dr. Immanuel speaks while standing on the steps of the Supreme Court at the White Coat Summit. According to the BBC, it is a gathering of doctors who call themselves America’s Frontline Doctors and dispute the medical consensus on the novel coronavirus.

“I’m here because I have personally treated over 350 patients with Covid. Patients that have diabetes, patients that have high blood pressure, patients that have asthma, old people … I think my oldest patient is 92 … 87-years-old. And the result has been the same. I put them on hydroxychloroquine, I put them on zinc, I put them on Zithromax, and they’re all well,” she said.

Texas Medical Board database, Immanuel received her medical degree from a university in Nigeria in 1990 and practices medicine at a clinic in Houston. She is a registered physician in Texas and operates a medical clinic at a strip mall next to her church, Firepower Ministries.

- A Nigerian website,

PM News, reported that Immanuel did a residency in pediatrics at Bronx-Lebanon in New York.
