No need to get even with your ex. Just write a song about them and fain indifference when they call you out. Some of the world’s most famous songs were written for reasons other than aiming for a number one hit.

Dear John

Taylor Swift’s 2010 hit Dear John was a blow to the gut for her ex-flame, John Mayer. During an interview with Rolling Stone, the singer said he was “really humiliated” by the song after their rumoured fling fizzled out before she released her album Speak Now.

You’re So Vain

Carly Simon only recently made the admission that her 1971 song You’re So Vain was written about Warren Beatty. For years fans had been chomping at the bit, trying to figure out which of her ex lovers were so vain.

In My Feelings

Twitter investigators immediately went digging in the darkest parts of the internet to find out who is Kiki when Drake asked “Kiki, do you love me.” Their concluded that it’s none other than Kim Kardashian. She soon put an end to the speculation and squashed the theory with a loud “Never happened. End of story.”
