Most women will try just about anything on their quest for fuller longer lashes.  I’m sure I’m not the only woman who has an assortment of mascaras promising different results. Unfortunately no matter how “long-lasting” your mascara might be, it’s wiped away at the end of the day.

Even false lashes need to be removed at some point in the day.

So for those ladies looking for a more longer lasting solution, lash extensions are ideal.

Unlike false eyelashes, lash extensions  are individual lashes applied to each lash one by one using a semi-permanent glue. With proper maintenance, lash extensions can last up to a month.

The Lash Collection tells us all we need to know lash extensions.

What to do before an eyelash extension?

It is best to arrive at your appointment with clean eyes – no eye make-up or mascara. Any excess products or oils on the natural lashes will affect the longevity of the extensions. A primer is then used during the treatment to remove any excess natural oils to allow for maximum adhesion and retention.

How to maintain eyelashes?

The homecare routine is crucial to maintaining a healthy and happy set of lash extensions.

Do not get the extensions wet for at least 8 hours after the application.

Avoid hot steam from a shower or sauna for at least 8 hours after the application.

Do not rub your eyes excessively.

Do not use an eyelash curler.

Do not trim the extensions.

Avoid getting oily based products on the extensions as this will break down the bond of the adhesive.

Any mascara used on top of the extensions must be oil free.

Cleanse your extensions gently on a daily basis using an oil free lash cleanser.

Apply a coating sealer to your lashes on a daily basis to maintain the shape.

How long do they last?

A set of lash extensions can last the full cycle of your natural lashes which is typically between 60 and 90 days. You will naturally shed an average of 3-4 eyelashes per day. As the natural eyelash sheds, the extension that is attached to it will shed too.

To maintain a full look it is recommended to book a fill appointment every 2 – 3 weeks.

How to remove them?

You will naturally loose the extensions as you progress through the growth cycle, and new natural lashes will replace the lashes that have shed out.

If you would like to have the extensions removed before they all shed out, you will need to book a removal appointment. A removal gel is applied to the extensions which breaks down the bond of the adhesive, and the extensions are gently removed from the natural eyelash. The full procedure should take 20-30 minutes.

How much do they cost?

A full set: From R700

Half a set or fill: From R400

Removal: R120
