Back in the days, many believed that to be a model, you have to be a size 4, tall and probably starve yourself.

Nowadays, that perception has been lambasted that even a size 40 can be a model. It’s not just about being a certain size or height, it’s all about confidence.

Alessandrio Bergman director at Sync Model Management shares with us what it takes to be a successful model.

“A  model needs to embody authenticity, natural beauty and confidence in terms of looks, shape and size. Every model should be a representation of who they are and what they stand for”, says Bergman.

Here are 5B’s to be a successful model

Be committed

Many models do not take the modelling industry  seriously and don’t understand that this is a business and they are in business for themselves as they’re represented, developed and nurtured  as their own brand.

They are encouraged  to stay committed as this is a very competitive industry.

Be Determined

When  models received jobs from the agency, they remain positive throughout the booking process and are advised not to be discouraged if not selected but stay determined.

Be Punctual

The agency and clients work with models with excellent time management, being punctual should come as second nature to a model or anyone and successful models arrive on time ALWAYS.

Be Patient

All great things take time and Rome wasn’t built in a day this includes being a top model. Building a brand and strong portfolio does take time, we encourage models, aspiring models not to give up when they have been attending castings or jobs and not getting the booked. Then inform the models not to take it personally as the industry is changing all the time and it's based on what the client wants.

Be Naturally You

Clients can see when the models are "faking it” and this leads to models not getting booked for the job we do not support the famous saying of  "fake it till you make it” .

We especially want all our African girls to embrace their natural look as natural always books.

The misconception that models “starve” is not true. Models are encouraged and enforced to follow a realistic healthy diet plan and exercise regularly.
