Bonang Matheba, aka Queen B, is a household name and the queen of everything. From fronting big campaigns such as being Revlon’s brand ambassador for South Africa to launching her Bonang by Cell C app and her hit reality show, as well as publishing her autobiography, From A to B Being Bonang.

Also under her belt are several magazine covers and a global book tour. Matheba will be presenting one of the country’s premier social calendar events, the Grand White Dinner, which will take place in Cape Town this month and in April in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban.

She talks about her longevity in the industry and gives style tips on wearing all white.

There is no doubt you have staying power in an industry that can be cut-throat and quite ageist, what has contributed to your longevity and what motivates you to do what you do?

For me it’s all about how you handle yourself. At a young age, I knew what it was to be a hard-working person and to have a sense of purpose, and with that comes being motivated. While I love what I do, I would also say that life motivates me, meeting people from various walks of life, and not forgetting travelling around the world.

What one word best sums up you and your vision?

Powerful.

You have met and interviewed a number of celebrities; name one who got you starstruck?

Jennifer Aniston.

If you had to describe your fashion style, what would you say?

My personal style has definitely evolved over the years and it also really depends on my mood. However, I would say it’s mostly glamorous and elegant.

Is there anything you would never wear?

Crocs are a no-no for me.

Wearing white on white can be tricky, what are some of your dos and don’ts on wearing an all-white outfit for the Grand White event?

* DO dress comfortably because it will be a long day.

* DO wear your best outfit and be sure to look fabulous.

* DO bring a jacket for later in the evening because Cape Town weather can be unpredictable.

* DON’T wear a different colour and please stick to the theme.

Share a random fact about yourself, which not a lot of people know.

I am lactose intolerant.

Finally, happiness is...

A choice.
