Foundation is the most important part of any makeup collection. It’s a no brainer why it’s called foundation since it IS the foundation of any makeup look providing a smooth, even complexion to work on.

Finding the right shade is vital. Since it needs to be noticeable on your skin and not sit on your skin like a mask. But finding the perfect shade is just one aspect to consider when purchasing a foundation. 

Foundations are now available in different formulas which provides different finishes and works best on different skin types.

Here is a breakdown of different types of foundation and what works best for your skin type.

Liquid foundation:

This is the most popular and basic from of foundation. The go-to formula regardless of your skin type. Whether you’re looking for a full or medium coverage, long lasting, moisturizing or oil-free, you will find a liquid foundation to suit your specific needs.

Tinted Moisturizer:

For those who don’t like the feeling of wearing foundation yet wants light coverage for everyday use, then a tinted moisturizer does the trick. These work especially well for young girls and those with good skin. An obvious benefit of tinted foundations is that it doubles up as moisturizer for women with dry skin. Look out for products containing built in SPF for an added bonus.

Moisturizing Foundation:

If you have dry skin but looking for fuller coverage then moisturizing, oil-based foundations work better than tinted moisturizer. These are great for more mature skin as well. It softens the appearance of fine lines.

Oil-free Foundation:

These foundations are water based specifically formulated for women with oily skin. One of the downfalls of this type of foundation is that it tends to dry quicker than those containing oil. You will need and damp beauty sponge as hand for blending.

Mousse Foundation:

The mousse foundation is a fairly new addition to the foundation family. Light and smooth these provide a barely there feel with medium coverage. Ideal for young skin looking for a matt finish without feeling a cakey feeling.

Stick Foundation:

The best thing about a stick foundation is that you can pop it into your handbag for when you need a touch up during the day or night. Unlike liquid foundations you don’t have to worry about spillage either. Stick foundations tend to have a heavy coverage and can easily double up as concealer. Avoided these if you have dry or mature skin since it has usually has a matte finish.

Illuminating Foundation:

The dewy, glowing look is a unavoidable trend. Illuminating foundations contain just a hint of shimmer. Since it very light coverage it can be used as a base before applying your usual foundation to give you a subtle glow. Not ideal for oily skin.
