London - If you dream of owning a giant television but just don’t have the space, your prayers may have been answered.

For while the latest offering from LG comes in sizes up to 77in (about 1.9m), it’s practically as thin as a sheet of wallpaper.

The ultra-skinny TV is just 2.57mm thick, as flexible as a thin sheet of metal, and it weighs so little it can be fixed to the wall with the help of magnets.

LG’s Signature OLED W7 was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It is expected to cost around £8 120 (about R136 000) for the smaller 65in model, which weighs just 18lb (about 8kg).

It hangs like a poster, locking into two keyhole segments in a mountable metal plate – which features magnets at the lower corners to keep it on the wall. LG says this creates the illusion of levitation. And as it protrudes from the wall by just 5mm, the television is difficult to spot from the side.

All its controls are housed in a sound bar that is separate from the TV screen.

To avoid a jumble of unsightly cables, it has one thin cord that runs into the Dolby Atmos sound unit – which features wi-fi connectivity and four HDMI ports.

Using LG’s Magic Remote handset, it will be possible to instantly access streaming services such as Netflix or Amazon by pressing a single, assignable button. Viewers will be able to zoom in, and even record the zoomed version – potentially helping solve arguments over how bad a football tackle really was, for example.

LG also claims its new "nano cell" technology – which involves an array of tiny dots on the screen – prevents the typical loss of colour for viewers who aren’t looking at the TV head-on.
