London - A new type of “polypill” could help treat migraine. The pill, which contains caffeine, aspirin and paracetamol, is being used in a clinical trial of 140 patients.

US researchers at Albert Einstein Health Centre are comparing it against the drug prochlorperazine, often used intravenously to treat the pain, nausea and vomiting associated with migraine.

Previous trials have shown that the three ingredients in the polypill may help tackle migraine — particularly the combination of paracetamol and caffeine.

The theory is that as an over-the-counter pill, the new drug will provide a more convenient and effective treatment to the intravenous one.

Patients on the trial will have the new drug combination plus a sham jab or the established treatment and a sham pill. - Daily Mail
