Four people – caught with the tools used to break into cars – were arrested in Chatsworth this week.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said in a statement that the suspects had been nabbed in an operation involving Malvern police and Cluster Task Team members.

Police were alerted after a suspicious Renault Sandero with four occupants was spotted in Croftdene area.

“As soon as they saw the police vehicle, they sped off towards Silverglen Drive where other members stopped them.”

A search was then conducted and various implements used to break into cars were recovered inside the vehicle, including remote jammers and vehicle computer boxes. 

“The four suspects were arrested for possession of the implements and will be profiled to see if they can be linked to other crimes such as motor vehicle theft, housebreaking and other theft cases in and around Durban.”

Gwala said they would appear in court soon.
