One dies in head-on collision

One man died on Wednesday after a tow truck and taxi were involved in a head-on collision in KwaMashu.

Netcare 911's Nick Dollman said that at approximately 7.44am on Wednesday, they responded to reports of a very serious collision on the M25 towards Durban next to Dube Village, KwaMashu.

He said paramedics attended to the two drivers, and there had been no passengers in either vehicle. 

"Tragically one of the drivers had sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was believed to be approximately forty years old. The other male driver was believed to be approximately thirty five years old. He had sustained multiple and very serious injuries and was attended to by a Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedic and analgesic medication was administered to manage his pain."

Dollman said that both victims had been trapped in their vehicles and fire fighters used specialised hydraulic tools to free them from their mechanical entrapments.

"An EMS helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the man to hospital. The road was  closed while police investigated the incident. This incident was attended to by police authorities, private and EMRS ambulance services and the eThekwini’s Fire and Rescue service."
