A man, believed to be in his 20s, was left seriously injured on Monday afternoon when he was hit by a light motor vehicle near the Sanctuary Road in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 12.20pm to find another service already assessing the patient.

"Assessments showed that the man has sustained several injuries and was in a serious condition.

The man was treated for his injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions before he was transported to Greys Provincial Hospital for further care."

The driver of the light motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
