Durban - Police have arrested a suspect for allegedly killing and burying a 29-year-old man.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said in a statement on Tuesday that Alexandra Road police had taken the suspect into custody over the death of Msizi Makhathini, who had been reported missing on September 16, 2017 at Mountain Rise police station.

“Intensive investigation led police to a dumpsite in Ashburton where a decomposed body was recovered.

A case of murder was opened at Alexandra Road police station for investigation.”

Mbhele said DNA tests would be conducted to determine the possible date and cause of death.

“The suspect will be charged for murder and will appear at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court soon. More arrests are expected.”

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa said: “The dedication by the police at Alexandra Road and Mountain Rise to solve the case is commended. We will ensure that all the criminals involved face the full might of law.”
