Durban - A 28-year-old woman has appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court for murdering 10-year-old Njabulo Mankayi and his best friend, Luyanda Msomi.
Appearing disheveled, Amahle Bongiwe Maliwa was charged with two counts each of murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The court heard on Monday that the State would oppose bail.
The case was remanded to next week for Maliwa to secure a private attorney.
Njabulo and Luyanda disappeared on Tuesday.
The Grade 3 pair was last seen boarding a bus to go home after school.
On Saturday, police recovered Luyanda’s body from dense bush in Montclair, south Durban.
Njabulo’s body was pulled from an area called Grunter’s Gulley, in the Durban harbour on Monday morning.
Njabulo and his best friend disappeared on Thursday, despite initial reports saying that they had last been seen on Tuesday.
Two other suspects have been arrested in connection with the boys’ murders and are expected to appear in court later this week.
