Classic vehicle auctioneers Historics at Brookland, will offer this ultra-rare Ducati - with a unique South African connection - at its sale on October 22.

This 1965 Ducati Series 2 350SC (Sport Corsa) was originally hand crafted for the Barcelona endurance races and, in the late 1960s, was brought to South Africa by Ducati team rider Franco Farne to promote the brand to a new audience.

Based loosely on the more subtle 250cc production bikes, the works 350SC had a unique twin-cradle frame, special alloy Marzocchi forks and sand-cast engine cases containing a special close-ratio, five-speed gearbox, with wider gears and longer shafts than the standard engine.

The whole bike weighs just 117kg and is capable of 200km/h.

The bike has recently been rebuilt in Britain by renowned Ducati race engine builder Anthony Ainslie, using new factory parts, and the engine has been confirmed in "as new" condition by Moto Marianna.

Rare and exotic though it is, this little jewel is not intended as a collectors' item. It's eligible for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as well as the classic race meetings all over Europe, and will be sold with spares and tool kit.

It's expected to fetch from £27 500-£32 500 (R320 000-R380 000).
