This is the Polaris Ranger RZR, the fastest-accelerating and only fully off-road-capable side-by-side quad on the South African market, according to its maker.

It has a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 760cc, two-cylinder, four-stroke engine and a belt-driven, constantly variable transmission with high and low range and reverse and all-wheel drive with equal torque to each wheel.

Polaris says it's also the lightest side-by-side at only 430kg and claims a top speed of 88km/h.

Its engine is mounted behind the seats instead of under them so the occupants sit about 180mm lower than on comparable machines from other makers and Polaris says that means the lowest centre of gravity in its class.

It has double A-arm front suspension with 229mm of travel and independent rear suspension with 241mm of travel. Polaris also claims it's the only quad with anti-roll bars front and rear. Braking is by discs all round.

The seats are adjustable and there's a passenger grab rail and a tilt-adjustable steering column.

The cargo bed has 12 tie-downs and is rated to carry 136kg; the company says it can tow 682kg on level ground.

- The Polaris Ranger RZR comes in red or green for R125 000.
