Great Wall Motors has relaunched its Hover SUV in South Africa as the H5, with more "comfort features", an impressive list of electrotech for its price level, antilock brakes with electronic brake-pressure distribution, airbags and an four-star Australian ANcap safety rating.

It's available in South Africa with either a new GWM two-litre turbodiesel, for which Great Wall claims 110kW at 4000rpm and 310Nm from 1800-2400rpm, or the proven Mitsubishi 2.4-litre 4G69 engine, dishing out 100kW at 5250 revs and 200Nm at 4000rpm.

The H5 petrol has a five-speed manual gearbox, with a six-speed manual in the diesel - each driving the rear wheels only. A 70-litre fuel tank is standard on each model; it runs on 17" alloys.

The new H5 comes with power steering, power windows and side mirrors, power-adjustable driver's seat, pollen-filtered air-conditioning, auto lights, a radio/CD/MP3/DVD player with satellite controls on the steering wheels, rain-sensing windscreen wipers and a reverse parking camera.
