Ssangyong's long-awaited compact crossover will have an Italian name and a somewhat European style, as these latest renderings show.

The South Korean SUV specialist, now owned by Mahindra, will launch this new B-segment contender in its home market in January 2015, ahead of its global roll-out around mid-year.

This new crossover will be called Tivoli, named after an Italian town (near Rome) which has a reputation for style. Ssangyong believes that its new baby will give it a strong standing in the international market.

Its exterior design fully embraces Ssangyong's forthcoming design language, aiming for the presence of a "dynamic, urban SUV with a modern silhouette." The interior, says its maker, will have a contemporary look and offer occupants easy connectivity to their mobile devices.

The Tivoli is expected to take many of its cues from the recent XIV-Air and XIV-Adventure concepts, both measuring 4195mm in length and powered by 1.6-litre petrol and turbodiesel engines.
