Not long ago we came across reports that Volvo was about to unleash a hot version of the S60 sedan, one that could even rival the likes of BMW's M3 and Merc's C 63 AMG.

Now Volvo has released an official teaser of the sports sedan, said to be called the Polestar, in a motorsport video from which the accompanying screen shot was taken.

Grainy as it is, the picture still shows the aggressive new design the Polestar will flaunt, including a bolder front bumper and widened wheel arches housing a very generously sized set of alloys.

There's still no official word on what kind of monster motor will motivate this hot S60, but the two obvious options would be a beefed up version of either Volvo's turbocharged straight-six or the Yamaha-sourced V8 found in the S80.

A Swedish publication, hopefully with good inside knowledge, recently speculated that the Polestar would have just under 300kW on tap.

Not long to wait for the official announcement though, which takes place on 16 June. In the meantime you can whet your appetite by watching the teaser video below.
