This is not the first time that the idea has been toyed with - cast your mind back to the VW Microbus Concept of 2001 (pictured here) that missed out on production due to financial constraints at the time.
Yet the financial situation at Volkswagen is looking a lot rosier at present and recently there was a very strong hint that Kombi/Camper, or whatever you'd like to call it, is going to be revived.
In an interview with Auto Express, VW's design chief, Klaus Bischoff said "I would not be doing my job at Volkswagen properly if I was not thinking of bringing back the Camper."
Bischoff stated that the big question concerns what type of vehicle it will be - as in whether it will take the form of a conventional MPV or a far more radical and versatile execution that will be revolutionary for its time, much like the original was.
