Cape Town - Attacked on the N2 in broad daylight, Tristan Bruce, 27, was still shaken by the incident as he sat in his car along the highway near Khayelitsha.

He was on his way back to his Rondebosch home from Somerset West at around lunchtime on Monday when a man pelted his car with rocks from the side of the freeway, hitting his windscreen and injuring his arm.

“The man was standing next to the road with something in his hand," he said. “As I was getting closer he came out and threw a rock at my windscreen.

Determined not to become a victim of a hijacking, Bruce said he continued driving for about 5km before stopping to inspect the damage and his injuries.

POLICE DEPLOYED

After stopping his vehicle, he called the police to report the incident.

“The man ran towards Site C in Khayelitsha and I didn't see him again.”

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said: “Police can confirm the incident on the N2 direction towards Cape Town opposite Site C, Khayelitsha of stone throwing at about 12.35pm. No arrest has yet been made.”

“Bruce was taken to a nearby hospital for a check-up.

“Police were deployed in the vicinity to monitor the situation,” Van Wyk said.
