Tokyo, Japan - It’s going to be a compact SUV fest at this year’s New York Auto Show, from March 28.

Toyota has already announced it’ll unveil its new-generation Rav4 at the show and now Subaru has promised to pull the covers off its all-new Forester SUV.

The accompanying teaser image, showing a C-shaped tail light, is the only official thing we have to go on for now, but the rest of the script is not too difficult to write.

The new Forester will inevitably be closely based on the Impreza, meaning it’ll follow the new generation onto Subaru’s latest global platform, which brought a 70 percent increase in torsional rigidity in the sedan’s case.

The natural powertrain choice is likely to be Subaru’s two-litre direct injection petrol engine, mated to the recently upgraded upgraded Lineartronic CVT and, of course, Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.

But perhaps there will be a turbo-charged surprise in the bag too?

We’ll find out in two weeks from now.
